Overview

A creative life.

Germaine Tailleferre studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where she formed relationships with composers who would become part of Les Six. She was the group’s only woman, but her musical life extended across a much wider range of work: keyboard and chamber music, concertos, ballet, opera and film scores. Erik Satie supported her early career, and she continued composing over several decades. Her Concertino for Harp and Orchestra provides one route into a catalogue that continued well beyond the early Parisian group with which her name is often associated.

The publisher’s biography places her music in contact with French neoclassicism while noting the continuing influence of Fauré and Ravel. Keyboard writing and an affinity for harpsichord repertory were important resources. The harp Concertino offers a more orchestral entry, setting a solo instrument against an ensemble in three movements.[1][3]
