For Wang Lu, the sounds of everyday life can become a compositional starting point. Born in Xi’an in 1982, she studied at the Central Conservatory of Music and completed a composition doctorate at Columbia University in 2012. A composer and pianist, she also teaches at Brown University. Her work moves among instrumental ensembles, electronics and other collaborative settings. The portrait albums Urban Inventory and An Atlas of Time offer different routes into a practice attentive to speech, memory, place and contemporary sonic possibility.
